Level designer at Ubisoft, Sean Noonan, has taken his first stab at making his own game! Jack B. Nimble hit the App Store at $1.99.
I know what you’re thinking. Actually, I don’t. But I do know what I’m thinking! “Check out this Game Boy-to-IOS port of Castlevania Runner!” Well, haters gonna hate. It’s not easy making the jump from level designer to indie game developer so I approve the approach of making your first project one with a manageable scope, especially when you’re doing it yourself. Just making a playable game seems to be beyond what some full-time developers are able to produce. I’m glad to get more people throwing their hats into the ring of the ‘Wild West’ of video game development.
Sean shows his competence here in his first turn at bat. The game play is quite simple; it’s a runner; there’s a jump button; and you can smack things as you run by. I sent $1.99 his way and bough this game. Hopefully enough people will do the same to encourage another project.
Now that he’s gotten his feet wet, here’s hoping he’ll tap his level design credentials for a deeper game, but I’m happy with the Game Boy graphics.
