First it was XCOM: Enemy Unknown that came to iOS, then it was Knights of the Old Republic, and now it’s Bioshock. Frankly, we’re loving this trend of re-releasing classic tripple-A games on mobile devices. Well, today 2K Games has announced they’re hard at work with the goal of bringing Bioshock to players this summer.
While we’re definitely of the opinion that touch screens are probably the worst way to play first person shooters, thanks to the imprecision of the controls scheme, it appears all hope is not lost. In a first impressions video done by Touch Arcade (seen above), it’s revealed that Bioshock for iOS will be compatible with third-party Bluetooth controllers — great news for all the old-timers that need tactile control.
The graphics are clearly not as good in this version of Bioshock as they are on PC or console, but this game is more about atmosphere and story than flashy graphics, so the lack of dynamic shadows is probably acceptable. There’s been no official pricing announcement or release date (other than “this summer”), but we expect the starting price to be a minimum of $10 and potentially as much as $30. If Bioshock is successful on iOS, expect to see Bioshock 2, as the games are technically very similar, both in terms of game-play and graphic fidelity.
