Dance your way to victory in the Cartoon Network’s iOS game, These Lumps – Adventure Time. In this game you move your character, Lumpy Space Princess, around the dance floor pushing the other dancers off in an attempt to steal the limelight.
At the start of These Lumps your character begins with a small amount of limelight and as you bump into others pushing them off the floor, your limelight (and power) grows. You’ll have to watch out for your energy bar, if that falls too low and your time runs out, then your dancing days will be over forever.
You have the opportunity of collecting bonuses to help you in your quest to become the dancing queen. The disco ball is pretty useful early on in the game as it reduces everyone else’s spotlight giving you an easier time to bump them off. You’ll also have to ensure you save some of your energy for the level’s big boss. Sometimes these are pretty easy to defeat. At other times, they can be a pain.
In order to move your character you simply tap or drag your finger over the screen to bump the other characters off the dance floor. You’ll want to find those bonuses which can reduce the other characters’ limelight and increase your speed.
The simple gameplay makes this an ideal game for the younger generation although it can be challenging at times. For instance, your ability to push a character off the dance floor depends on their limelight being less than yours. At the beginning there are more characters that have a higher limelight and they can sometimes surround your character, leaving no way out. This often results in your character repeatedly bouncing off the other characters, unable to achieve anything on the level. If this does happen, your energy will fall quickly and the level could be lost.
These Lumps – Adventure Time certainly seems aimed at younger players who will love the cartoonish graphics. The scoring is easy to understand, although sometimes during the busy periods on the levels, it can be hard to examine how your score is improving as it is just too crowded on the dance floor to concentrate on anything but where your character is.
For adults however, These Lumps is not particularly in depth with each level pretty much the same, the graphics simple and the music can be off-putting.
One of the more annoying aspects of the game is the high number of advertisements which appear every couple of levels or so. This is in the same style as many other games with videos interrupting game play. It seems to have been implemented since an update as in the old version this was not the case. During game play there are no in app purchases however, which is good for what is essentially a child’s game.
As is probably obvious, These Lumps – Adventure Time is better suited for the younger generation. Adults may enjoy picking it up every now and again for a little distraction, but there is little there to recommend it for long term game play.
