Following the trend of releasing older, full-featured games to iOS, Square Enix is set to release Dragon Quest VIII to the App Store later today. The game has been spotted on the New Zealand App Store today, which is often an early indicator of an imminent US release, as has been the case with previous Square Enix games.
We love seeing vintage JRPGs land on tablets and phones. The turn-based gameplay works well with a control scheme that is not known for its precision accuracy; something that can’t be said about platformers. Unfortunately, Dragon Quest VIII is likely to be sold at quite the premium compared to what we’re typically used to. In New Zealand, it’s selling for 25 New Zealand dollars, which converts to about $22.21 US dollars. That said, we’re anticipating a sale price of $19.99.
